From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of characters who will split off from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.
Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the developments of the third episode show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
First, the party understands precisely where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, striking the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.
The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each character has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a nasty location.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could enable the group reach places they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The cleric turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in search of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Questers and Planners parties.
Viewers can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
