Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hardcourt
A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first trophy for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a torrid year, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the American major.
Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-time mentor his previous coach.
Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.
This marks his first title following the Rome competition and first on a hard surface after March of that year.
Success also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 different tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.
Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had led observers to question if his capacity to play at the top level was over.
Yet the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete positively, supported by an improved serve.
Medvedev came back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the last five points to take the lead.
The pair traded break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his first tour championship, seized the initiative to force a decider.
He defended four early opportunities in a competitive third set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.
Suitably, he secured the win with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to handle a return after a lengthy match.
